STEAM VERSUS INFRARED SAUNA

🌿 Steam Sauna (Traditional Sauna)

How it works: Uses moist heat—steam—to warm the body. Typically 150–190°F with ~100% humidity.

🔥 Benefits:

  • Detox through sweat: Opens pores and promotes heavy sweating, which supports detoxification through the skin.

  • Respiratory health: Excellent for those with sinus or lung congestion; moist heat can soothe airways.

  • Boosts circulation: Heat causes blood vessels to dilate, improving circulation and cardiovascular conditioning.

  • Promotes relaxation: Heat and humidity help relax muscles and reduce stress.

⚠️ Drawbacks:

  • High heat intensity can be overwhelming or unsafe for those with cardiovascular issues or heat intolerance.

  • Not ideal for mold-sensitive individuals, as humidity may aggravate mold-related symptoms or foster microbial growth in poorly maintained saunas.

  • More difficult for those with adrenal fatigue—the intense heat can be too stimulating.

🌞 Infrared Sauna

How it works: Uses infrared light to penetrate tissue and heat the body directly without significantly heating the surrounding air (100–140°F). Comes in three types: near, mid, and far infrared.

🔥 Benefits:

  • Deeper tissue detox: Infrared penetrates skin and fat tissue more effectively than steam, releasing stored toxins like heavy metals and BPA.

  • Gentler heat: Ideal for sensitive individuals, adrenal fatigue, or those with chronic illness (e.g., Lyme, mold illness).

  • Pain relief & inflammation reduction: Improves circulation, reduces joint and muscle pain, and speeds healing (similar to photobiomodulation).

  • Weight loss support: May modestly boost metabolism and support fat mobilization through sweat.

  • Improves mitochondrial function: Especially near-infrared light can stimulate cellular repair and energy production.

⚠️ Drawbacks:

  • Less intense sweating: Not as immediate as steam; some people may need longer sessions to get the same sweat.

  • Doesn’t support respiratory relief like a steam sauna would.

  • Requires a longer session time (30–45 minutes) to reach comparable detox effect.

  • Want my favorite sauna that I have in my house?
